Since having my kids six years ago, google maps has suggested that I set the local playground as my place of employment more than once.
You visit Kids Corner Playground often would you like to set this location as Work?
To which I always silently answer, “Hell no,” and then revisit one of my favorite mental torture routines in which I calculate how much money, experience, impact, and personal achievement I would have accrued over the course of the last half a decade had I kept my work location at the charter school in Texas.
This is not a productive thought experiment. I then quickly backload these thoughts with reminders of how much I’ve gained from my time home with my boys and how they’ll never need -or want- my company this much again.
Now that I’m making good on my commitment-to-self to pursue writing I need to convince google maps that I actually have a place of business- even if it is a coffee shop.
My “work day” is limited by the schedules of a six and a four year old. I may only have an hour-and-a-half between dropping one off and picking up the other, but I’m going to make the most of my limited time- that means no going home and getting distracted by piles of dishes and laundry. I’d like to have more time, but the time I have is the right time to write. (Can you tell I like puns and word play?)
So, I’ll be supporting local businesses that serve coffee. Today I fueled my storyboarding and outlining work with a lavender latte (because calming lavender should counteract my feverish workpace…right?)
